Program: This week's program was presented by DNR District Forester Jason Walker in preparation for our tree planting project. The City of Charles City has inventoried around 1,500 ash trees that will be lost due to the Emerald Ash Borer. This round of tree planting will be about 130 trees of 22 different varieties. Trees will be planted in the city right of way in the residential areas and in some of the parks. Volunteer teams will plant, mulch and water the trees. Ongoing watering will be needed into next year due to dry conditions. A group of about 45 high school students will assist with the planting.
